About Angi Thomas
A childhood growing up in the Victorian town of Beechworth was followed by art school in Melbourne. I had the good fortune to spend six months travelling in Europe then returned to spend a couple of years working as a scenic artist in Melbourne.
My husband Matt's teaching job took us to Gippsland where I then completed my Grad Dip Ed to become an art teacher - a career I enjoyed for over 20 years.
It was the beauty of Gippsland that spurred me on to paint landscape - but I couldn't escape my Abstract Expressionist roots, so the work was never in a traditional form and mark, texture and colour took precedence over illusion. However, I have always tried to create a sense of 'place' and lure the viewer into the artwork to experience it too.
